We’ve all attended events as influencers and I can guarantee we’ve all googled top tips of how to enhance our experience. Am I right?
Mila and I attended our first ever London Toy Fair yesterday and it was also our first influencer event of 2020! The London Toy Fair is the UK’s largest dedicated toy and games trade show and had over 270 exhibitors all showcasing the latest toys that will be launching in the upcoming year.
As this was our first experience of an expo like this, we really didn’t know what to expect and wandered around taking it all in. Coming away from the event I had noted a few things that I would have done beforehand had I have known what it was all about. So I thought what better than to put together 5 top tips you should do in preparation for attending something similar!
Top Tip 1: Register to attend
Now this might seem obvious, but most expos you need to pre-register online. It took a few days for our application to get accepted and once it was we were invited to a specific date for influencers. The last thing you want to do is to travel to an event and be turned away.
Top Tip 2: Scope out which brands will be there
The main website of the event will have a list of all the exhibitors planned on having stalls. Take a look at this and make a list of companies you’d love to pop by to, especially ones that you may have already worked with (putting a face to a name is excellent in building your relationship!).
Top Tip 3: Reach Out
Once you have your list of must-see brands, the next step is to send them an email. Introduce yourself and inform them that you are visiting the event and would love to schedule in a meeting with them. Although we got to see and test a lot of new toys and games today, there were quite a few that were by appointment only. Not only do you get a designated one-on-one slot by pre-arranging, it also gives the brand time to scope out your channels & social media too making the experience more tailored and worthwhile.
Top Tip 4: Business Cards
This was something I did ponder about a few times but never actually did. I would strongly suggest having some business cards to take with you that include your name, email, social media channels & blog/youtube etc. It makes it super easy to hand out to brands when they ask for your details and having your own logo on there (for example my blog logo), will make it stand out too.
Top Tip 5: Take Photos & Videos
Of course, a lot of these trade shows are showcasing products that aren’t on the market yet and possibly not even in production, so it might not be possible to take photos or videos. However, if they agree or state that it’s ok, then take pics and videos of the products or of yourself talking about them. This then allows you to post on social media, such as Instagram stories, and tag the brands. You’ll then pop up in their inbox and be hard to forget 🙂
I will most definitely be putting my own top tips in action next time and I hope that you find them helpful for any upcoming events you may have. We really did have such an amazing day today and it was so lovely seeing and speaking with some of our favourite brands as well as discovering new ones. 2020 is a good year for toys that’s for sure!
Why not try them out for yourself?! The next parent event is The Baby Show 2020, which is in London from 28th Feb – 1st Mar. I’d love to know if you’ll be attending and whether you used any of my helpful hints and tricks 🙂 The GLAMOUR Beauty Festival is also back this year on 20th March and the same tips can be applied. They’re universal to all niches!
